How can Breast Reduction Surgery benefit me?
Goals/benefits
Thank you for giving us the opportunity to explain how Breast Reduction surgery can help you get the look you desire.
Women with unusually large, sagging, or uneven breasts are dissatisfied with their physical appearance. Many women may also experience pain and discomfort due to the weight of their breasts and the pressure of bra straps on their shoulders and neck. Excessively large breasts can affect posture, limit physical activity and exercise, and make it difficult to find properly fitting clothes. Ungainly stares and rude comments may further promote a feeling of self-consciousness, limiting confidence and adding psychological strain to the physical symptoms.
Breast Reduction Surgery is typically used to help patients overcome physical limitations resulting from overtly large breasts. Though large breasts are typically prized in popular culture, women who bear the burden of large breasts may often live in a state of perpetual discomfort or even have recurring medical problems. . The final goal will be to have a completely natural look that compliments your figure.
Typically, Breast Reduction Surgery may help a woman:
- Alleviate shoulder and neck pain.
- Avoid discomfort from ill-fitting undergarment clothing.
- Facilitate the process of more natural breathing.
- Avoid unwanted embarrassment and attention.
- Achieve a more subtle and natural breast shape, and improved aesthetic bodily balance.
- Allow the woman to engage in more rigorous sporting exercise.

The Breast Augmentation Process
1. The Consultation
This is one of the most important steps to achieving your desired results. Dr. Gupta believes that understanding your goals is of top priority. Once he has listened to your concerns, he will interject his thoughts, from both a scientific and artistic prospective. And together with you, he will formulate a treatment plan that is right for you.
During your consultation, Dr Gupta will determine if you are a good candidate for the breast reduction procedure. He will discuss the procedure in detail including both benefits and risks. He will also discuss what to expect before, during and after the procedure in completed.
At the end of this consult, you will feel empowered with information as all your questioned will be answered. It is natural to be nervous about any medical procedure. It is Dr. Gupta’s goal to make you feel calm and confident about the next steps of your upcoming breast augmentation. The doctors and staff at BeautifySD are devoted to warmly attending to each of our patients needs.
2. Choosing the Right Procedure for You
Depending on the needs of the patient, the location of the incisions will vary. After the incisions are made, the surgeon will remove excess tissue and skin, then lifts and shapes the breasts for an enhanced esthetic appearance. Often, the nipples are moved to a higher position. To maintain this position, the surgeon layers a series of sutures within the breast tissue. Post surgically, dressings/bandages and compression garments may be used to facilitate healing.
3. Surgery Day
All patients must avoid taking aspirin (or anti-inflammatory drugs) for at least 10 days prior to breast augmentation surgery. This is because such medications may induce blood-thinning. Patients who smoke are also asked to stop for at least two weeks prior to the procedure — because smoking complicates the healing process.
On the morning of your procedure doctors recommend that you wear loose-fitting clothing, and make some arrangement for transportation home after surgery. Further instructions will be provided during consultations.
4. Recovery and Results
Once your breast reduction surgery is complete, once can expect some swelling and soreness which is a normal part of the healing process. The patients are instructed to wear a surgical or athletic bra to provide additional support. During the first 2 weeks, activity should be minimized, with continued caution/avoidance of heavy lifting or pushing for approximately 1 month. There may be a temporary loss in sensation in the nipples for the first few months post-surgically.
The final results from breast resuction surgery can take months to become fully evident. Many patients are overjoyed with the elimination of discomfort and physical limitiations that they experienced with larger breasts. This contributes to an increase in self confidence and self esteem.

Some common Breast Reduction Surgery Questions
How long does Breast Reduction Surgery take?
The average length of time for breast reduction surgery is about 2-3.5 hours and of course varies depending on each individual patient and extent of surgery. It is performed under general anesthesia and many patients go home the same day as the surgery, however, a 1-2 day hospital stay is sometimes necessary.
How much does Breast Reduction Surgery cost?
The average cost of a breast reduction varies from $5,000 to $7,000 which includes the anesthesia fee, facility fee and the surgeon’s fee. When looking at the bottom line, it is important to consider the quality, background and experience of the plastic surgeon along with the extent of the procedure required.
If multiple procedures are performed simultaneously (ie.breast augmentation and breast lift) the patient will benefit from many angles as they will go through recovery only once, with less time off work, and enjoy a decrease in cost.
Does Breast Reduction Surgery leave scars?
After your surgery, the scars will eventually fade, however there may be some evidence of remaining scars. It is important to avoid sun exposure until they turn white or they will turn permanently red.
Will My breasts Grow Back?
The surgeon will try to ensure that your breast won’t “grow back”. However, this is affected by your age at the time of surgery as younger you are at the time of your surgery, the greater the probability that they will grow back. Longevity of the procedure in your particular circumstance will be discussed with you at the consultation.
Can I Breastfeed after Breast Reduction Surgery?
Although there is a high probability that you will be able to breast feed post surgery, there is a chance that this may not be the case. If you nipple and areola are still attached to the breast tissue beneath them, then you should be able to nurse. If, however, the nipple was removed and then placed on a reconstructed breast, there may be damage to the nerves (which inhibits release of hormones necessary for milk production), milk ducts, and breast tissue may reduce milk flow along with causing a decreased sensation in your nipples. Generally speaking, breast reduction surgery is more likely than breast augmentation surgery to interfere with the nursing process.
