Can a Breast Lift make me more attractive?

We appreciate that you have given us the opportunity to explain how a Breast Lift can help you get the look you desire.  Many women have chosen to undergo a Breast Lift procedure, particularly those who are not satisfied with their breast shape and contour. Breast Lift surgery is used to restore drooping breasts to a more “perky look.”  This gives the patient a more youthful, healthy appearance, and tends to improve self-esteem and self-confidence.
Depending on the individual needs of the patient, the Breast Lift procedure may make it possible for Dr. Gupta to achieve several aesthetically desirable results. For example, we can:
1.     Rejuvenate breasts that sag due to aging, pregnancy, or weight loss.
2.     Remove excess skin tissue, and re-contour the breasts to a perkier shape.
3.     Improve the overall look of a patient’s upper frame.
4.     Reduce the size of the areola.

The Breast Lift Process

1. The Consultation

This is one of the most important steps to achieving your desired results.  Dr. Gupta believes that understanding your goals is of top priority.  Once he has listened to your concerns, he will interject his thoughts, from both a scientific and artistic perspective, and together with you, he will formulate a treatment plan that is right for you.
At the end of this consult, you will feel empowered with information as all your questioned will be answered. It is natural to be nervous about any medical procedure.  It is Dr. Gupta’s goal to make you feel calm and confident about the next steps of your upcoming breast Lift.  The doctors and staff at BeautifySD are devoted to warmly attending to each of our patients needs.
At BeautifySD, Dr. Gupta offers several techniques to lift and reshape the breast and reposition the nipple. Dr. Gupta’s extensive training in breast surgery has enabled him to skillfully perform all types of Breast Lift procedures. He has a passion for educating his patients and looks forward to discussing which procedure (or combination of procedures) is best for you.

2. Choosing the Right Procedure for You

There are several different types of incisions used in a Breast Lift. Here are a few major ones:
A single incision: around or on the top half of the areola.
A vertical incision: from the areola to the Infra-mammary crease (where the lower breast meets the chest). This incision is generally in addition to the incision around the areola and thus commonly also is know as, “A Lollypop incision”.
An Anchor shaped incision: In this approach and additional incision along the infra-mammary crease is made in addition to the areolar and vertical incisions.
The Breast Lift procedure methods can vary to achieve increased or decreased breast projection, augmentation, or reduction. The size of the breasts and the amount of loose, sagging skin (along with patient expectations) will determine the extent of the Breast Lift incisions.
Breast Lift procedures are often combined with other procedures like Breast Augmentation surgery or even Tummy Tucks.
Following the decision to have a breast lift procedure done, the patient will  generally undergo a mammogram and Dr. Gupta may prescribe certain medications determined on a case by case basis.

3. Surgery Day

All patients must avoid taking aspirin, ibuprofen, blood thinners and other similar medications for at least 10 days prior to the breast lift procedure. This is because such medications may induce blood-thinning. Patients who smoke are also asked to stop for at least two weeks prior to the procedure — because smoking complicates the healing process.
On the morning of your procedure, we recommend that you wear loose-fitting clothing, and make an arrangement for your transportation home after surgery. Further instructions will be provided during consultations.

4. Recovery and Results

The result of breast lift surgery is often breathtaking.  The final results can take a few months to be fully appreciated.  The recovery process begins immediately in which patients can expect to experience some soreness and numbness in the nipples.  It is important to avoid lifting heavy objects for at least 4 to 6 weeks.  Dr. Gupta will closely monitor your progress, and advise you on when you can resume your normal activities.

Some common Breast Lift Questions

How much does a Breast Lift cost?

The average cost of a breast lift varies from  $3,500 to $7,000, which includes the anesthesia fee, facility fee and the surgeon’s fee.  When looking at the bottom line, it is important to consider the quality, background and diligence of the plastic surgeon along with the extent of the procedure required.
If multiple procedures are performed simultaneously (e.g. breast augmentation and breast lift) the patient will benefit from many perspectives, as they will go through recovery only once, with less time off work, and enjoy a decrease in cost and general anesthesia.

Does Breast Lift surgery leave scars?

The scars will begin to fade within a short period of time, however, it may take up to a year for the scars to become almost invisible. Our practice utilizes various scar treatments and Dr Gupta will continue to guide your scar management at your follow up visits, until the scar maturation process is complete.

Will a Breast Lift help to remove Stretch Marks on my breast?

Yes, a breast lift can reduce/remove stretch marks since some of the breast skin (which includes stretch marks) is surgically removed.  Stretch marks, which are actually tears in the deeper layers of the skin, occur when breasts increase in size due to pregnancy or weight gain.  Depending on the type of Breast Lift selected and the distribution of the stretch marks, a complete removal may or may not be possible. How do I know if I’m a candidate for a breast lift procedure?

There are many reasons to undergo a breast lift procedure, such as

  1. Having a scooped out appearance of the breasts
  2. A loss of fullness in the upper part of the breasts
  3. Desire to regain the full, perky, projecting breasts that you had in your teenage years

If you did like the size of your breasts post-pregnancy but do not like the shape, you will be a candidate for breast lift procedure alone. If you do not like the size of your breasts post-pregnancy and if preferred the fullness of your breasts during pregnancy then a supplementary breast augmentation may be of benefit.

To determine if you would benefit from a breast life, a general self assessment can be made by measuring the amount of sag in your breast.  This measurement is from the center of the nipple to the sternal notch to guage how far the nipple has fallen.  The target for a young breast has been estimated to be approximately 8″ (or 21 cm) from nipple to sternal notch.     If you find this measurement to be greater than 8”, try moving the nipple up to this level with your opposite hand to get a rough idea of the final position following a breast lift.  Of course multiple other factors will be assessed at your consultation to achieve the results that are right for you.
