The premise of this procedure is simple, the surgeon simply harvests fat cells from one part of the body and then injects it into another. It is known as autologous fat grafting or transfer. This process typically increases breast size by one cup size. It is important that the patient has enough excess fat that can be harvested for injection into the breasts.

The Breast Augmentation with fat transfer Process

1.The Consultation:

Your initial consultation with Dr. Gupta is designed to facilitate good communication, which we believe is the key to making successful choices. Dr. Gupta will collect a full medical history, do a thorough examination and listen carefully to your desired goals. Once he has listened to your concerns, he will interject his thoughts, from both a scientific and artistic perspective. Together with you, he will formulate a treatment plan that is right for you. As a patient, you will spend a considerable amount of time with Dr. Gupta as well as with office staff preparing and planning for your procedure. Photos will also be taken.

The second visit will entail you and Dr. Gupta developing a detailed plan for your procedure. It is at this appointment where you will view the photographs taken at your initial consultation. As you discuss your concerns and analyze your images, Dr. Gupta will map out a plan to use as a blue print for surgery.
Dr. Gupta takes a holistic approach to breast augmentation — enhancing both the size and shape of the breast while ensuring that the result is harmonious with the entire body. He will discuss the steps required to achieving fuller, natural looking breasts. At the end of this consult, you will feel empowered with information as all your questioned will be answered.

2. Surgery Day

All patients must avoid taking aspirin (or anti-inflammatory drugs) for at least 10 days prior to breast augmentation with fat transfer surgery. This is because such medications may induce blood-thinning. Patients who smoke are also asked to stop for at least two weeks prior to the procedure — because smoking complicates the healing process.

On the morning of your procedure doctors recommend that you wear loose-fitting clothing, and make some arrangement for transportation home after surgery. Further instructions will be provided during consultations.

The are two sequential procedures performed on the same day. First, Dr. Gupta will carefully harvest fat from another area of your body. Once the fat is removed via a small syringe, it is then washed. Secondly, the fat is injected meticulously and uniformly into the breast area.

Many precautions are taken to ensure maximum survival of fat tissue. These precautions include avoiding trauma at the harvest site, careful refinement of the harvested tissue, and injection of the fat in small aliquots instead of large portions.

It will normally take 4-5 hours or more.

4. Recovery and Results

Once your breast augmentation with fat transfer is complete, your initial recovery time will be approximately 1-3 days. Over the next few weeks, any swelling and soreness will resolve. The complete healing process can take anywhere from a few weeks to a few months. Dr. Gupta will continue to observe you carefully during your healing process, and will advise you when you can resume your normal daily activities. Full results are visible after approximately 6 months.
